Aromatherapy is an ancient art where pure essences from aromatic plants are extracted for their health giving properties and stimulating scents. These powerful plant essences are nature's gift to the human mind, body and spirit.
Aromas have a strong psychological influence over us using sense of smell and the psyche. There is a strong connection between the limbic system in the brain and the nearby olfactory bulb. The limbic system is responsible for "memory and emotions" and the olfactory bulb is where smells are registered. The limbic system has a great influence over health and wellbeing on a physical, emotional and mental level. It can cause symptoms such as stress, anxiety and depression. The limbic system can be influenced into a state of wellbeing and relaxation by the application or inhalation of essential oils.
Pure essential oils are extracted from plants and are the key ingredient in aromatherapy. The oil extraction technique varies depending on the plant and the part of the plant being used, flowers, leaves, fruit, berries, wood, resin or root can all be used. For example, the petals of rose, the flowering tops and leaves of peppermint, the berries of juniper and gum resin to make Frankincense.
The use of 100% pure essential oils in a massage / healing session deepens the treatment, enhances mood, improves ailments and promotes health and emotional wellbeing. The oils used in each treatment are unique for each individual and are chosen after initial consultation and on an intuitive basis during the massage / healing session, the choice will change according to what the client requires at the time.
Essential oils are blended with a carrier oil and applied to the body during massage. In a healing session, the oils are rubbed between the palm of the therapist's hands and applied around the body within the auric field.
I use 100% Essential oils made by LeReve and Gum Leaf, the carrier oil used made by Auroma, an Australian based company.
